If it were an European model, the serial number would start with an F, not the model name.

Almost. F13 is a designation given to the Festival by some dealers (Brook-Mays for one). I've never seen that designation from Buffet.

I dount that it should be called an F-13 then, because Festivals come with the alternate Eb key, and this clarinet has none, so I assume it is a typo.

It's defiantly NOT R-13 or E-13 and forget Festival. If you check the second picture you'll notice there is NO "Made in France" insignia. This clarinet is made in Germany and IMO is intermediate/student level instrumen....V

From the pictures, I could tell that there was a model identification on the upper joint below the label so I e-mailed the seller. As it turns out, this instrument is an "International" so the correct designation would be C13. In an earlier thread, Mark Charette passed on information from Francois Kloc that this instrument is comparable to the E11.

According to an ad by B&H in the Winter 1986 issue of The Clarinet, the ranking of the Buffet's from bottom to top was: B-12, E-11, E-45, C-12, and R-13. Apparently, a C-13 was created some time after that and slipped in between the C-12 (if it was still being made at that time) and the R-13. What confusion! Can anyone add to it?

I wish we could work out a complete list of the models (including F13 and Academy Model), and what the hell they were, with dates they were being manufactured. Sigh. Why can't there be an old Frenchman 100 years old who kept in touch after his retirement who will talk and violate his blood oath of secrecy now that he is in his dotage.

I agree, Jim S. And it's probably easier to get the Buffet information than the Leblanc info. Info on their models, manufacturing periods, and specifications is frustratingly elusive.
