Hi Roger - I hoped someone else could help you. All I can remember re: Alex. is that they made excellent brasses and like their horns were [are?] French. They are not listed under Rendall's "Makers" nor by Brymer. Regent sounds veddy British! Ask Mark on the 4 PM Chat session today.

Regents is not listed in The New Langwill Index. In many cases these instruments are "stencils" - made by a manufacturer for resale under another brand name - something like Sears, Roebuck & Co.

It would be interesting to chart out all the clarinets with similar names. Last weekend, I saw a silver-plated clarinet labelled "Regency" and "Made in Cleveland, Ohio, U. S. A.." Something about the engraving and general style reminded me of H. N. White, also located in Cleveland. I don't know this for a fact, but I think maybe it was a White stencil, made, as you say, for some store. It looked like a typical metal student clarinet. Not that this information does any good for someone with a "Regent". Just maundering....
