I have just uncovered my old clarinet from the 1950's and would like to find more information. It is a Cavalier Model 68N, natural wood (maple I think) from Pan American Band Instr. Its listed as a div. of C.G. Conn in Elkhart, Ind. I have taken it to several music shops and they claim there are no records of this type of clarinet being made. Thank you.

Is this the brilliantly colored model? If so, it is likely one of the laminated wood models by Pan Am, nice to look at, but generally a poor player. I have worked on a couple, I believe Dee owns one and can give you some info also. Luck, Don

My Pan American does not say Cavalier.
However, Pan American was Conn's bottom line student model. When Conn initially set up Pan American, they didn't even let people know that it was a Conn company.

Dennis - Look into the "clarinet photos" web-site via the link in GBK's thread just above yours! For me, the metal cls pics come on, and the #12 pic [of the 17, going down] is a METAL Pan Am Cavalier. Perhaps there is a date in the "hard to decipher" description, but it looks like the usual 17/6 horn [as I would expect]. Its possible that among the many woods, there is at least a Conn [same vintage??]. Velly interesting!! Don
