 Wurlitzer clarinet mouthpieces
Author: Roland Berger

I play on a Viennesse Wurlitzer Oehler fingering clarinet with a VA0 Vandoren and Black Master reeds +5 by Vandoren. I was wondering if anyone out there could share what they also use on their Wurlitzers or Oehlers? It seems that I am one of the few Norhth Americans who play these instruments in spite of the fact I had mine made at 440 I am still sharp. Does anyone out there know of a lower pitch design mouthpiece for this set up? Maybe I need an overhaul.

Perhaps a Zinner mouthpiece would be a little lower pitch. When I tried Black Master reeds on my R13, they seemed to encourage a higher pitch than the V12s, probably because of some smaller dimensions. Good luck!

I have a lot of success with the Viotto mouthpieces (Zinner blanks) for Oehler system (Wurlitzer) clarinets. The type indicated as Viotto "R", originally intended for the (german) reform-boehm clarinets, fits also very well a lot of Oehler system clarinets. The results is a very nice and centered sound AND lowering of the pitch for appr. 1-1,5 Hz. Of course the result depends also on other aspects such as the bore of your instruments.
The recommended facing is N1 (tip opening 1,00 mm), which requires White Master reeds, strength 3.

The people I know in America playing on Wurlitzers play with a Zinner mouthpiece. I am not sure if it is a blank, or someone has customized the mouthpieces. Perhaps by contacting Bernd Wurlitzer, he could help you out. I am not sure of his email address, but I am sure by doing a google search it will show up.
