About a year and half ago, someone on this bulletin board was looking for the book of 16 greatest hits Pete Fountain transcriptions. It seemed to be out of print and not available. Did anyone ever find a source? I am also looking for it. Jamey Aebeersold doesn't list it.

Ron...Until you are able to locate the Pete Fountain book, you might be interested in the solo transcriptions done by James Vernon on his web site. He has done 6 of Pete's biggest hits (as well as 6 by Buddy DeFranco). They are in Adobe format, and easily accessable.
Lots of sax and flute music/info/jazz exercises as well.

The books (Pete Fountain transcriptions and Buddy DeFranco transcriptions) are out of print. Farrell Vernon is the author (transcriber) of these. I have corresponded with him about the books and he said he had re-acquired the rights to the books after Houston Publishing went out of business. You can contact him at his web site (listed above). He was going to try to sell them on-line. My last contact with him was January 2001, so I don't know where that project is at this point, but that's what he told me he was attempting to do.
In the meantime, if you want the book, you can go to your public library and ask them to do an interlibrary search for the book, and then an interlibrary loan. That's what i did in Baltimore County. They ended up borrowing the book from a library in Ohio.
By the way, on Farrell's web site, he has excellent practice regimens and he has several of the Pete Fountain and Buddy De Franco transcriptions right out of the book.
Hope this is some help.
Jeff
