I've been wondering about Julian Bliss. He started at age 4, right? What did he do when he lost his front teeth? I believe that's usually between 5 and 7 years old. Did he take a month off while the new teeth grew in? Did he find some way of coping without teeth?
I'm just curious... :^)

Do you have those sleepless nights wondering about Julians teeth TOO? I thought I was the only one. (Just Teasing!!!! of course.)
I don't think that the gap in his little mouth would have made that much of a difference. He would have had to lose at least the front 4 at the same time to even allow the width of the mouthpeice to possibly touch his gums. I think as long as the seal of your lips is still tight on the mouthpeice, it should be just fine.
I think the only way to know is to find someone that is having that experience for themselves.

i'd never thought for a second about JB and his teeth.... and while i'm sure he coped with the whole deal and found a way to continue practise, my personal experience does not agree with Becky .... "as long as the seal of your lips is still tight on the mouthpiece, it should just fine"
in fact, as far as i can tell, it makes a huge difference to the pitch and quality of tone if the teeth are placed on the top of the mouthpiece. As a player who can play with both a double and single lip embochure (in fact- my embochure doesn't change much really when i switch to double lip) it would seem to me that there shouldn't be a difference..... but time and time again i find i can improve a students tone by ensuring that they have the teeth on the mouthpiece.

I was not allowed to learn until i had my second teeth. All my friends were busy playing away but not me, all because i hadn't lost my baby teeth!
Just thought I'd share that with you. lol.
