Every 2 years, here in the UK, the BBC runs a competition called 'Young Musician of the Year'.
I've just watched the final where the winners of each class (piano, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion) play a concerto with a pro. orchestra and the winner is decided. The woodwind finalist was a clarinettist called Sarah Williamson. Sadly she didn't win, but I think she's a name to look out for. She gave a magnificent performance of the Copland.
Previous finalists have included Emma Johnston and Michael Collins and this young lady certainly seemed to me to be miles better than the former, who did win. I bet we'll hear more of her.

I watched it aswell, she was excellent, even better in the semi final i believe!
In the semi's she played the following.
Weiner's Peregi Verbunk
Debussy's Premier Rhapsody
Messager's Solo de concours
She was on fire in the messager and the tone throughout was unbelievable, i believe she plays a peter eaton clarinet.

Jez - g'day
I seem to remember one of the BBC Music Magazine CDs (I got every one from Volume 1, Issue 1) had a portion of this great British (no pun intended) institution. I was amazed at the virtuosity of playing and interpretations displayed by the younger generation of performers. I think our musical heritage is in good hands?

HAHHAAA
It appears my hit list has increased by one, and includes more than Julian Bliss out there. . ..
Just kidding i really applaud the efforts of such dedicated young musicians out there, and i think that those are the type of musicians i have always looked up to (even if they are 12 years old)
Good day all

The clarinettist's speed in Messager was really amazing and she really pulled it off.
