If there's a Sam Ash near you they're really good about letting you try stuff out.

Call Gregory Smith--with some minor economic arrangement, he will send you mouthpieces for "audition" and work with you until you find one that is "right" for you. A bit pricey, but his "Cicero Kaspar" model is worth every penny (I'm a satisfied customer). There are also other mouthpiece makers listed in the "Sponsers" section of this website that may also have similar trial offers, but I have not personally tryed their services or products. BTW, I'm suprised that your local music store would not let you try before you buy--most better music stores routinely allow instrument and mouthpiece testing, as long as you take care not to inflict any damage. Give Greg a call, you won't be disappointed. Good Clarineting!!!!

Almost any music store will let you try before you buy. How else you gonna know if you like it? Like test-driving an automobile.
They sterilize and rinse the mpcs when you're finished, Diz. It's the law. Hahahaha :)

MouthpieceExpress.com and Weiner Music ( http://www.weinermusic.com/) both allow a trial period. You can purchase up to 3 mouthpieces for trial. You return the ones you don't want, and you are issued a credit. I got fast delivery times, and ended up happy.

John Myatt here in the UK let you try mouthpieces on approval although they will charge a small re-stocking fee.The service at John Myatt is excellent, I order most of my accessories from them and they send them by first class post.
