I'm in a semi pro organization, military band, and was going to get a new horn but need some advice from anyone who wants to give it. I was thinking about an Eton Int. for awile but the started to think of some others like Rossi's or Leblanc's but could not find much about any of them. If anyone here has played any of thies horns I would really like to hear from you and get your advice on this matter.

Two comments: First, my selection of an instrument would be tempered very much by the conditions of its use. If it is to be played outside a lot, in concerts or parades, I would suggest a high-quality plastic clarinet -- to avoid environmental damage to a wood instrument. I recently bought a Vito V40, which is an excellent (perhaps the best currently made) plastic Clarinet. Among its acoustic design features are undercut tone holes, usually seen only on professional-level wood instruments. Second, I have never heard of an Eton Int. Clarinet. Perhaps you could offer some information on that one.

Jim makes a good point about where it is going to be played. I play a Rossi and won't play it outside on hot, humid days or for that matter really cold ones. But if you are going to play indoors I wouldn't hesitate. This is a magnificent instrument and in my opinion worth every penny. If you try one let me know how you liked it. There is a big difference in sound between the grenadilla and rosewood. I think for military music the grenadilla will be a better choice. The rosewoods are beautiful but I found the sound a bit too mellow. Rossi has a site on the net. Luis Rossi makes the instruments in Chile and I think they only make 5 of them a month. Let me put it this way, my serial number is only 3 numbers long!!!
As per the Eatons, I don't know much about them. I tried a Patricola Eb but didn't care for it. I like my LeBlanc. It was a discontinued model and I got it for a song. I also have a flute that was a demo model. Also a great price. There are ways to get excellent instruments without paying top dollar. I don't think that will happen with the Rossi however.

Josh, surely you are correct. Sorry I was so easily "snowed" on that one. Peter Eaton does sell a lot of Clarinets, especially in Britain. I've never had the opportunity to play one of them.
And Jean, if I ever have a chance to get a Leblanc for a song, I will sing my heart out.  I have been a Leblanc-oriented guy for many years.
And Will, many own both "indoor" and "outdoor" Clarinets.

For a good sturdy instrument, (i.e. able to survive outdoor environments) don't be afraid to try the Buffet Greenline models. IMO they play as nice as their wooden counterparts.

thanx to you all for your great thoughts on this matter and no i WILL NOT BE TAKING THIS HORN OUTSIDE i already have the vito for this reason and it plays well but was looking for a good horn for wind ensamble work. well thanks again.

So the Greenlines do play as sweet as the wood ones? This is good to know because I will be looking for a new clarinet hopefully this summer, need to save up for a bit first. I would give strong consideration to the Greenline because it should be worry free no matter what the weather and also for transportation. I was not aware that they did compare to the wooden ones though.
