I was wondering if anyone had ever been to the sarastoa music festival, music academy west, or festival institute at roundtop? What are they like? Also, how hard is it to get into these camps??
Thanks for the replies!

My teacher is at Round Top, and he is excellent. I know the auditions are already
finished for this year, but you can always audition next year. I think he got about
60 tapes for 3 spots. Email me if you want to know more about my teacher.

I thought about trying for Sarasota, but the deadline was like the first week of February. I was nowhere ready! My teacher went to that festival and said it was a really good one. I know several really talented clarinetists that try to get in, but are rejected. I guess the competition is very tough. The Music Academy of the West is another hard one to make. There are only 4 clarinet spots, that is if no one is returning from the previous year. I decided, just for fun, to try for the Academy of the West. The excerpts weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I know I most likely did not make it, but considering I am in my second year of undergrad. I have a while to get in. That deadline was at the end of February. If you are serious about looking into these festivals, you should start looking around Christmas time or the first of the year. Many of the deadlines are the end of February. And the really good festivals require a lot of stuff!!! I've been to two festivals: Eastern Music Festvial and Sewanee Music Festival. Those were both really good festivals. Currently I am on the waiting list for Brevard Music Center. There are several really good festivals all other the country. Well, good luck with the summer plans!!!
