I just purchased a fabulous recording of the Messaien Quartet for the End of Time.
The clarinet player is Paul Meyer. Just curious, is he any relation to Sabine Meyer?
Thanks.

Paul Meyer is indeed probably the most talented of new clarinet payers, at least in France. I would even say he's a much more talented player than Wolfgang Meyer, Sabine's brother. He's been part of the French "Ensemble Intercontemporain" directed by Pierre Boulez for a while. Boulez insisted that Paul Meyer should be part of this ensemble specialized in contemporary music as he loved Meyer's particular sound and talent. I am not surprised you like his recording of Messiaen.

His version of the Bruch pieces for clarinet, viola and piano is sensational.

As already mentioned before, Wolfgang is Sabine's brother, she is married to Reiner Wehle who is also a clarinetist and all three together form the "Trio di Clarone".
