I've just been on the phone to "music" retailer in Sydney (oz) to enquire about pricing on their clarinets. Since Leblanc has been taken over by "americans" there are a whole range or pricing issues, stock issues and other such crap that I - as a purchaser really don't give a toss about - except, that it means a lot of music stores just don't stock Leblanc clarinets. Extraordinary, really. Does anyone have any dealings with retailers in australia who sell Leblanc clarinets (or Selmers for that matter) and can they email me and give me an idea about who to contact?

maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and look at an R-13 *sigh*

Leblanc has been "american" for quite a while! (In 1989 Vito Pascucci took control) What new issues are they talking about? For some reason it seems to me to be more "excuses" ...

I've sent about 6 e-mails to Leblanc over the last year concerning parts, service and questions about the new (and super ugly) contras. No replies either by e-mail, snail mail or phone. I'd have a better chance getting a date with Kathy Ireland.

When I was looking to purchase my pair of clarinets(round a year ago) I too was wanting to try some LeBlancs (ie. the Opus and Symphony VII) out and eventually gave up as I found it impossible to find them anywhere in Australia (i live in Brisbane). This being the case i was able to try a few Selmer Recitals and two Signature Bbs and one Signature A through the music store up here - For Winds. The only thing is now apparantly they only get them in if you're interested and don't stock them all the time. Just mainly Buffets.

i've only ever seen one of the "new line" (Opus etc, now probably updated by something else?) of Leblanc clarinets here in NZ. A very nice Opus that has been sitting in the shop for years. In the US i had many oppertunities to try them out etc, and have to say that the best A clarinet i've ever played was a Concerto with nickel keys..... WOW (not for sale damm it)
i don't know why these horns do't sell here, but it's a small market and Buffet is a big name, played in the symphonies and cheaper.
i think Tom Ridenouer did a great job designing these horns, some people say they don't have good tone, i think they sound fine. But the tuning and "balance" make these horns so easy to play!

I work on them all the time and have no problem getting parts and great horns. It does seem that they have lost touch with the public. Great horns! Bad management!

I have seen on ebay a seller called brassnwoodwind. I have seen them post leblanc clarinets sever times. Look there, im sure they are a music store.
