i must be the only one having this problem since no one else has posted about it, but you know the tiny fonts the mac users were talking about, now the words appear that way to me. very very small even tho i went to view and changed to largest. all the surrounding words changed bigger, but not the posts. what do i do?
thanks, JL

No idea. The font sizes are now specified by pixel sizes instead of point sizes. Are you running an extremely high resolution graphics display?

If you're having problems with the fonts plase contact me offline at charette@sneezy.org and indicate the machine you're using (Windows, Mac, Unix, etc.) the browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mosaic, Opera, etc.) and browser version number. If I get a pattern then I can find a work-around. The point size font specification is a known problem on Macs, but pixel specifications should work just fine.

I just got the smaller fonts on both my computers a couple of days ago as well. However, I like the change. Thanks (to whatever caused it).

Mark -

I'm using a plain vanilla PC with Internet Explorer 5.0, and I've noticed the smaller fonts, too. The new message area is in Arial and the existing message area is in Courier. For some reason, changing the "View" option affects only the title lines, but not the messages, and the messages are uncomfortably small on a 17" monitor at 1024 x 768.

Mark,

I don't know if this is related, but when I noticed the font change I also noticed the 'new' text next to the threads don't go away after I've read the thread. Even after I refresh or exit/launch I.E., I still have all the threads with 'new' next to it. Just thought I'd let you know.
Thanks,
LynnB

Nothing to do with fonts. has everything to do with whether or not your computer accepts cookies.

Mark --

Just logged on again (1730 hours PST) and the look of the page has changed again.

Typeface is now a serif face; size is OK. Subject line and "Reply To This Message" line are (relatively) huge.

When I type a reply (like now) typeface is still sans serif.

No complaints, just a description. Have you been experimenting further?

Todd W.

Mark: whatever you did, stay with it. I'm a Mac user--if that makes a difference or not--but the current type face, size, and space utilization is excellent. Bravo. Chuck

We're getting there.

The BBoard code is a bit of a mess - I need to re-write it. The original author didn't use CSS much when he 1st wrote it, and the newer code he wrote isn't a quantum leap forward.

Need to implement a faster search on the BBoard, too, along with moving the database and search indexer to another machine so the response is better between 11 PM EST to 2 AM EST (-0600 UTC is the conversion).

Along with getting more bandwidth - the current connection is starting to saturate 3-4 times a day, and we're moving close to 40Gb/month just in clarinet-related stuff (not including full snapshots of everything every 4 hours - I have a near duplicate of the main computer in a location 1200 miles away) - most companies would die for that kind of usage and hits nowadays.

Along with replacing the machines with more powerful versions.

Along with raising some money - I plowed about 6K USD into the system last year, and I was unemployed for 6 months during that time. I'm webmaster of a few paying sites and use some of that money along with the funds I raised over a year back to keep things chugging, but the bank account is running thin again.

Look for a fund-raiser again soon ... I'll be looking to build 2 rack-mounted dual CPU systems and co-locating them in a better connected environment. My company will be doing some work for a company that co-locates computers soon, and I can hopefully cajole the owners into cutting me a discount on 3u worth of well-connected rack space (2u for 2 computers, 1u for my ethernet-connected power strip...) I'll have some really nice gifts, too, that I can get for near cost from a friendly company, along with pledges via credit card this time to make giving "less painful".

Someday I'll be independently wealthy and won't have to beg ...

Mark, you don't need to beg the folks on this board. Just let us know when and how. However, don't let that deter you from the independently wealthy scenario . . .

Trust me, it won't ;^) I work full time at Connectione.com (my new company), full time as a consultant at IBM Austin in the Rapid Port Team, half-time as webmaster of the ICA site, the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium site, the (soon to be released) Dallas Scuba site (Forest Aten, clarinetist in the Dallas Opera, is proprietor - and lets me have his spare season tickets to the opera along with supplying me with a second family - thanks, Forest if you're reading this!), and tech person for Klarinet lists.

In my spare time I get to talk to the wife & kids (via phone & IM - I'm in Texas, the wife & 2 kids are in Michigan - no, I'm not divorced, just residing where the work is - and one kid is in Ohio at Cleveland Inst. of Music).

Whatever time is left is spent here on Sneezy.

So - 8 hours for Connectione, 8 hours for IBM, 8 hours total part time ... no, I don't get any sleep ;^)

But I do enjoy my life, lemons and all, and the time I spend here is some of the best "quality time" anywhere. 2001 was my "annus horribilis" - if it wasn't for my extended family here I might have suffered a real bout of depression.

Mark -

Sounds like you have at least four jobs, each of which takes 50% of your time.

Count on me when fundraising time comes.

At the moment, beejay, I don't practice much at all. Getting back on my feet is taking precedence.
