Why is this site called "Sneezy"?
I can't think of any clarinet-related significance.

All of us "old timers" are probably chuckling because this question is asked about every 6 months, so here goes:

Read the following link (from Mark), about half way down the page...GBK

A careful search of available literature and film will reveal that "Sneezy," of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fame (shouldn't that be *dwarves*?), was never known to play a clarinet well. In fact, not at all. However, his name was long ago selected by M. Charette, who owns this site, just because. Additional fascinating historical detail re naming a server "Sneezy" can be unearthed by clicking on "search" and entering "sneezy" below.

Hi GBK,

Go to

http://boards.eesite.com/board.cgi?boardset=saxweb&boardid=suggest&thread=18&spec=4421904

You will see how saxophonists on Sax on The Web see us:

I have a slight feeling that GBK's statement has a slight touch of the general clarinetists' attitude (classical ones in particular) toward sax players (jazz ones in particular), roots of which have been planted more than 100 years ago when the blue-blood snobs of Paris rejected A. Sax's invention (for reasons that were mostly of political nature, and had nothing to do with the art of music).

What funny about that post is GBK listed 3 urls, 2 or which point to SOTW. The 'Bourbon Street/1839' url is the old address. We are 2 of the 3 most popular sites.

I've seen both boards - sneezy is easier to follow. this site has too many threads it's easy to get lost. I think Quijote, you have a touch of the saxophonists attitude.

I too look at both sites. IMHO, this site is FAR more interesting, and more active. The sneezy site tends to be dominated by students. Also, the sneezy site has the annoying feature that topics are pushed back regardless of posting activity, thus effectively limiting the life of topics to a week or so.

As far as attitudes go, I play both clarinet and sax, having started on clarinet. I think it's far more common for clarinettists to look down on saxophonists than the other way around. Also, saxophonists tend to double more, and I think they tend to have a bit broader view towards other wind instruments. Regards,

Mike B.

Interesting...I still say that this board is run with more civility, respect towards others, and decorum than any other on the web.

Besides that, we all know that the clarinet is the more difficult instrument to master. (The saxophonists just don't want to admit it)...GBK
