I read in the liner notes of a John Williams (of movie score fame) CD has written a clarinet concerto. Does anyone know if this is true and where I could find a recording/written copy of it? Any help would be appreciated.

David Blumberg, a frequent contributor to the Klarinet list, at least in the past, was the engineer. It is available for download in mp3 format. I'm not sure how much of it you can listen to for free -- possibly the whole piece, possibly just excerpts. You can buy a recording of the entire work however. The good news is that the price is low -- $7.98 (plus shipping) for a CD that has the recording in standard CD format and MP3 format and also includes a performance of the Weber Concertino. The bad news is that the sound, IMHO, isn't very good on the Williams (OK, to me it sounds like the recording was made by someone with a $60 portable tape recorder sitting in the back of the auditorium. Sorry, David, but I have to call it like I hear it.) The work, itself, is interesting, sounds fiendishly difficult and in a somewhat more dissonant "modern academic" style than his film music. The Weber is from an earlier commercial recording, as I recall, and the sound is fine.
Happy new year,
jnk

"He" also wrote a splendid violin concerto.
