There is just something AWEsome about the sound of bass clarinets/contras - they're great, aren't they? I just wish "composers" of symphonic music would use the contrabass clarinet more. It seems relegated to the world of concert band music or clarinet choir.

 Hey IHL

Yes - it's great to see this group and their beautiful instruments. How the heck they afford to buy a contra-bass is beyond my comprehension. In Australian dollars (roughly 2 for 1 US dollar) a "new" Leblanc contra costs around $35,000 to $45,000 - who on earth can afford this?

One can find contra altos on ebay for $800 to $900 sometimes. The Selmer Bundy I bought is fabulous. Good Luck!
