has anybody here purchased from either Pro Winds (in Indiana), Giradinelli (NY), or Weinermusic (NY)? What's your experience with these stores? Are they reputable. Do they have a large selection of clarinets?

I've had great experiences with International Music Suppliers. Lisa Argiris is wonderful and is a great help. She Helped me pick out my New Festival. I would give her a call at 1-800-762-1116 ext.227. They also had better prices than pro winds and Weiner MUsic.

Of the three you mention, the only one I am familiar with is Fred Weiner. I have purchased reeds, accessories and at least one mouthpiece from his store over the years. Every experience has been a good one. He has been in business for 25 years, is extremely knowledgable and helpful, and IMO is highly reputable.

Best regards,
jnk

Marguerite...I know both Fred Weiner and his chief repair tech Mark Kasten both professionally and socially. Fred gets a very large supply of Buffets, has visited the factory on numerous occasions, and knows the entire Buffet line in great detail. He always has more horns to sample than one has time for. Call him for an appointment so Mark can have as many horns as you want set up and adjusted before you arrive.

If you want a personal recommendation, email me off line...GBK

These are all just my own opinions and realtions of my own experiences.

I have purchased from Giardinelli. They have a huge selection and their prices and service are good, but I would not rate their service as superior. I have never made a purchase from Weiner, but I have come close (the item I wanted was not in stock for immediate shipment, which I needed) but I have found them to be very helpful, their service is very, very good and they have very knowledgeable people there. I suggest trying IMS. I have never spoken directly to Lisa Argiris (sp?), but I have heard very good things about her. I had a bad order experience with them about a year ago (not surprising considering the time of year), but I was so impressed with their service recovery that I decided to give them another chance this spring when I was purchasing a clarinet for my neice. It was the right decision. I have found their service to be consistently excellent and their prices are usually very good also. I also suggest, if you can, avoiding Woodwind and Brasswind's mail order operation (I don't know what their stores are like). Their prices are very competetive, but their clarinet "expert" (I cannot recall her name) has given me incorrect product, price and manufacturer information on more than one occasion and I have always found her to be extremely argumentative and not very interested in helping anyone. I'll not do business with them again if I can avoid it.
