 K8xxx Selmer

I have a K8xxx Selmer clarinet which is not listed at
http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Equipment/HowOld/Selmer.html.

On the bell it has the wreath with "Henri Selmer Paris" and underneath is "Sole Agent US & Canada, Selmer." This is over a tent like design with "Elkhart" going up from the bottom left to the top and "Indiana" going down from the top to the bottom right.

Under all this is "MADE IN PARIS."

Can anyone give me some background on this horn, its history or value or suggest resources to explore?

Thanks

C@p

Sounds like an Amateur Radio callsign from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, or West Virginia.

(oops - in case you didn't notice - that was a joke...)

Based on the description of the insignia, your horn dates to the 1920's. These are generally well built instruments, manufactured with quite different bore and tonehole configurations than are commonly used today. Value is subjective, generally these horn transact for $200~$500 dependant on the instrument's condition (pad & tenon cork condition, presence or absence of chips or cracks, presence or lack of original barrel, mouthpiece, etc.).

The best resource to obtain more information is to search here at sneezy. Search under "Selmer", "K series", etc.

I think it probably is late 20's to early 30's, no later than '32 or so.

J Butler [great war story!] is correct, my L 1206, a Radio Improved Full Boehm [20/7] is a 1932 as I recall, so the late K series should be 30-1, good years for Selmer. My bell is similarly decorated and says Reg. US Pat Off, and on the UJ says Depose [as we discussed earlier}, so I believe it applies to the trademarked emblems and not to patents. Don
