Does anyone know of any good sites to look for info on Stravinsky's 3 Pieces-like the story behind the music?
Thanks

Stravinsky wrote the 3 Pieces in 1919 and dedicated them to Werner Reinhart, an amateur clarinetist. This was done as a token of gratitude by Stravinsky for the generous way Reinhart had financed the first production of L'Histoire du Soldat in 1918. The original manuscript of the 3 Pieces was originally given to Reinhart as a
gift, but now is in the museum in Winterthur, Switzerland.
The first performance of this work was in Lausanne in 1919. The work was published by Chester in 1920.
There are many fine books (remember those?) still in print about Stravinsky. The finest one is probably "Stravinsky - The Composer and His Works" by Eric White.
Also, if you would check the Sneezy site, there has been much discussion, including this article:
http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Friedland/Repertoire003.html
There are many other details regarding the origin of these pieces, but those are the basic facts...Research is a good thing - but always use primary sources. Be wary of some of the internet information out there - anyone can put up a web page and be an "internet scholar"...GBK

Rosario Mazzeo wrote an article on this piece for "The Clarinet" which David Niethamer posted to the Klarinet list some years back. Search the Klarinet archives on "Mazzeo Stravinsky" without the quotes and you should find David's message.
Best regards,
