In seach of an Eb, Prestige R-13 or Prestige RC??

I'm trying to find an Eb Clarinet. Typically i would go for the LeBlanc Concerto because thats the company i go with but they are back ordered for six months and im too impatient! I have decided that i need to purchase a buffet. Is there a general agreement for Eb's when it comes to buffet to what is best? Let me know.

A friend of mine who used to "sub" with the New York Philharmonic, advised me that many pros prefer the Selmer effers to the Buffets, because they sound "less like Holloween." The nicest one that I ever played, was a LeBlanc, but unfortunately, it belonged to the UW of WI system and was not for sale. The Concerto may be well worth waiting for if sound, eveness of scale and intonation are important to you. Good Clarineting the effer way.

I like my Buffet R-13 RC but i do recomend using a good mouthpiece. The Fobes SF model really took the "halloween" out of my tone. Blake Arlington, VA

I play aSelmer Eb with a Portnoy bpo2 in the Orchestra of English National Opera and find it to be a superb instrument in every way. They sound like clarinets! which is always the problem with the swine pipe, and the intonation on them is extremely good throughout the range at all dynamic levels. Most of my pro collegues also play Selmer. Also a Boosey and Hawkes, they are suprisingly good and seem to be larger than most so the problem of fitting your hands to them is somewhat helped. You can find some very good second hand ones relatively cheaply.

Blake,

Is it a R-13 or a RC you own (or is there some combination type I don't know of)?

Yamaha has definitely been slighted. The Custom Eb will stand with the others. mw
