Author: Missy K  Date:   2001-09-28 06:00 Hi, everybody I played clarinet in JHS and HS while living in Arizona (to keep from being bored to death, I guess ... ) Anyway, I taught myself how to read, pick reeds, fingering, that sort of thing, and evertually worked up to third chair in HS. (Two other stuidents got the I and II spots respectively, and had their own horns, erstwhile we got the Bundy bowling-ball material model!) Enough nostalgia from me. Well, after tfifteen years, I got to play (YES!!) again, and was so delighted to do so, I bought a horn, after gathering a lot of advice from another clarinetist lucky enough to have a Buffet. He'd suggwsted to get a used wooden rather than a new plastic/ebonite/faux grenudilla. So, I followed this advice and headed for B'way. Thought it playes beautifully (although I still have to adjust the barrell @ times to tune with the ensemble), I got it used from Rod Baltimore's in NYC for $500, wooden. It has no name brand anywhere on it but the bell, and that says "Meyer" on from and "Made in Czechoslovakia" on the back. The serial numbers stamped into it are "65196" on the UJ, and "5196" on the LJ. I take this to mean this came form the same family, the UJ/LJs, but I'd like to know if anyone out there in clarinet land knows of this model, if at all possible. The case os from Armstrong, but this wasn't the original case for this. (the orginal one that was to go with this horn was, ... er -- um, ... STINKY!!) Thanks.
