I know, I know - I'm boring you, but it's my football :^)

If you remember a while back I said he was a semi-finalist in the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Award for woodwinds. Received word today that he won the national award for woodwinds. He'll be in a concert at Interlochen for the award winners on June 10th.

His equipment for the tape audition was:
Buffet Festivals (Bb and A)
Stock barrel on the A, Leblanc barrel on the Bb
Hawkins mouthpiece
Legere reed (#4, but scraped to be closer to a #3.75 and slightly reshaped by reed knife)

Now, a plug for a sponsor:
His cane reeds were unplayable the day that he had set up to make the tape (sound familiar?) The Legere, while not his very favorite reed, was up to the task at hand. At least the judges thought so!

I will be hosting a graduation open house on June 13th from 2PM to 6PM. You're all invited - but you'll have to travel to Novi, Michigan (beween Detroit and Flint) to meet the family. If you can make it please drop me a line & I'll give you directions.
Congradulations!! What will your son be playing and with whom? It sounds like his most valuble resources were not the Buffets, but consistent work and a loving, supportive family!
But Interlochen..............be weary of the dancers...and.....(diminished chord)the DREADED DATE GATE!!
:) Stuart.

Stuart - he's been at the Academy for 3 years now - I don't think there's much he doesn't know about the place :^)

As to what he's playing - not sure. They'll probably want something that he played on the tape, so I'll guess the Schumann Fantasiestuke.

Congrats! It's never boring. I think success stories are nice (so long as you don't do a book! LOL)
