Just wondering what ya'll think of the Vandoren Optimum lig...oh, and does anyone play the Optimum w/ a LC3 mpc? If so, how do you personally like the combo...i know it'll be totally different for me, but i'm just a little curious!!
Thanks!

Personally i don't care for the Vandy Opt. Ligs. i use a BG revelation lig with a Vandy M14 profile 88 mouthpiece and Vandy V12 3.5 to 4.5 reeds depending on the season. If i were to use a metal lig i'd go for a Bonade inverted. I've never heard about the LC3 mouthpiece, i would love to know more about it!

I use and like the Optimum lig on my Kasper #14, my Bay custom copy of my K-14, and my Greg Smith Chedavelle model 1*. I use the parallel bar insert which plays the same as the Bonade inverted lig without the constant adjustment hassel. Also, the Optimum does not shift on your mp as the Bonade tends to do sometimes. With all due respect for Keil's preference, I have a BG Rev. and do not like it. I get much nicer response and sound from the Optimum. Many pros (players who are real good and clarinet for a living) that I personally know, use the Bonade lig and I think that it is a good choice--except that it needs constant reshaping with a pliers so that the rails do not touch the sides of the reed, limiting the vibration of the base. With the Opt. and its paralle rail Bonade imitation insert, this pliers rememdy is never needed as the lig does not bend out of shape with normal use. The other inserts will give you different tone qualities as the grip the reed base differently. I do not like those choices, however--I'm a Bonade imitation insert person. My second choice of ligs, by the way, are the Winslows with the four point set up. I still use them on all of my saxes. Good luck--hope all of this helps. Good Clarineting!!!!!

I use an Optimum and like it, but I use it with a Hawkins. The LC models are Larry Combs mouthpieces, and I know he uses an Optimum (although he uses a Hawkins too).

I have not had good luck finding an optimum that works for me. None seem to beat my Bonade inverted and my Kaspar ligatures.

I went from a Bonade to a Rovner to the Olegature. Each step made my horn even freer to blow. Tried the Optimum and it even beat the Oleg. I'm not sure why it's different from a Bonade, unless it's the direction of pressure against the reed. For whatever reason, I really love it.
