The United States Patent and Trademark Office [USPTO] has recently revised their site, making it even more user-friendly and providing both "front-page" and "manual" [full text but without drawings] search-retrieval-printout at very high searching speeds. This may be found at http://www.uspto.gov/patft/. I have found it to be very useful when researching a variety of technical subjects, such as musical instruments in Class 84, woodwinds Subclasses 380-385, clarinets mainly in Subclass 382. The time base is 1976 to date, and there are some techniques for searching historical art, of which others may be more knowledgable than I. I will try to communicate what I know both here and to "Early Clarinet" [Onelist] as questions may arise, such as in our Sunday BB chat sessions. Don
