I'd like to know approximately how old the clarinet I own is. It is wood and stamped "Normandy France" on each piece except the mouth piece which I know is not original. I have owned for 20 years and it was probably 10 years old when I purchased it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Debbie,
Is there any other numbers on the instrument at all? Most clarinets have a serial number at the bottom of the upper joint. That would help us help you better.
The Normandy France instruments are made by Leblanc and have been around for quite some time. I believe them to be of a good intermediate quality instrument. You might want to check out the Leblanc website for more information.

If I remmember right, Leblanc doesn't look up and give the age of your instrument via email. You will have to write them a letter with all the vital info on it and send it by snail mail. The address is on the Leblanc web site.

Willie -
As Mark says on the serial number page, for Leblanc serial number dating, call 1-800-558-9421 and ask for Dave Surber.
I did this about a month ago and got a quick and courteous answer.
Best regards.

Last time I wrote Leblanc asking about the age of an older instrument (an old Vito alto sax) I never did get an answer. I hope they're more responsive these days!
