Hello,
I bought my Backun Protege on eBay some years ago. Serialnumber PR 163 in bouth joints. The thing is - it has black keys, the whole keywork is black.
I have searched for a similar clarinet on the web but have not found any. Not that I want to buy another one, just curious if anybody has come across one like mine.
If you know more about this odd backun protege, please let me know.
Thank you!

It was a black nickel plating. The Leblanc Bliss line also used it at one time, near the end of their run I think.
It doesn’t hold up very well over time, especially with certain people’s chemical makeup of sweat. This is why no one is doing it anymore (to my knowledge).

Actually, Selmer does have this finish on their top models: Privilege and Muse.
Not only the finish may be not as durable as silver plating, it will come off in case a key requires swegind.
