Starts today with a recital by Ricardo Morales! Apparently it's record attendance so I'll have to queue up early or risk getting shut out of the concert. I remember the days when Clarinetfest triggered long discussions here every year, am I really the only one from this group in attendance this year?
The drive across Utah was glorious - almost every mile a scenic wonderland. Took in four national parks as well as the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument. Looking forward to being settled in one place for the 5 days of Clarinetfest before hitting the road again for New Mexico.

I only live a couple hours away from Denver, but I can't convince myself that the fest has anything to offer someone like me.
I'm a gear minimalist, happy with what I have, not interested in changing it up unless I need to, and have increasingly grown away from "classical" music, and classical music culture.
Am I wrong? Does the fest have something to offer someone like me?
The only benefit I can come up with, is that it would be cool to meet other bboard personalities - but even then, I'd rather meet musically in playing music together, rather than standing around at the fest.
For those who enjoy such things, I'm happy that the fest came back to Denver! The region has had a beautiful spring, and it's a great year to host the fest.

Yes, there is actually plenty here that would have potentially appealed to you. I know ClarinetFest has had a well deserved reputation for being academic and stuffy, but that's changed to a great extent in recent years. That said, I'm sure you would have looked at the program if you were remotely curious.

I was curious - and I visited the website, but I didn't readily see a program. The highlighted "events" didn't appeal to me, but perhaps I should have dug deeper into the website?

I think that there would be lectures on various aspects of playing that can be applied to jazz if that's more your style. I recall one event I was at where Eddie Daniels gave a casual talk about how he warmed up and what he did to play jazz effectively (if I recall correctly he did this super quick minor third routine up and down the horn that let him know he was ready to play properly).
It's not all heady academia and stuff to buy, but there is a lot of that.

Nellsonic- your trip there and back sounds AWESOME. I've played at 5 clarinetfests and been to 1 as a non player, and probably only have ONE more left in me. But got to say, visiting the scenery en route sounds like exactly what the doctor ordered right now!

Non-classical items of interest that I came across during the first 1.5 days: Tom Puwalski gave a workshop on playing klezmer by ear, there was a latin jazz quartet concert (fronted by a clarinetist, of course), Boris Allakhverdyan included some klezmer in his recital, and tonight the Artie Shaw Concerto was part of the Air Force Band concert. Oh, and the featured afternoon concert today was clarinet and accordian which included music by Sidney Bechet and Benny Goodman as well as polka and Bulgarian dance music.
I haven't looked at what's coming in the next few days but last year there was an evening showcase of clarinet soloists with big band and Doreen Ketchums was the star of the conference with several sessions and perfomances. There was a spreadsheet of sessions put out a few weeks ago but I'm not sure where that was.
