 The Ridenour Lyrique 925c ! 1,000$ better with a 50 cent shoelace !

Everyone with this bass knows that the basset keys are springy , lack tactile resolution when depressed and have rather a lot of travel . The culprit is the low D rod ,which bows upwards in its guide when it's operated ,losing a lot of its drive focus . The final C#/C pads close late to let the D mechanisms build up enough springy closing power . Alter toying with how to cap the D rod guide , I chose a simple option which was to hold the rod down in the guide with a little strip of shoelace lashed around the narrow post neck with fine twine . All in black materials , it looks really quite neat . With the rod secured and its drive focused , the late closing of the C#/C pads becomes more of an issue, because now one is bucking a lot of torsion in the secured D rod rather than its soft bowing response . The C# closing I advanced by a combination of bending its angle with its lifter arm and replacing the rather rubbish low friction strip on the rod lifting arm with some thicker ( and better) material . The rocker arm on the bell low C I had to pack with quite a piece of cork ,although this represents just how much surpluses travel one can take out of the basset touch pads . The outcome of these modifications is a key action with less travel , springiness and excess force requirment , plus a firmer tactile resulution for confident pad closure rather than having to hit these keys like a diving board and hope that they'll launch you into these last three notes .

Ps. If you do key bending to make adjustments ...its at your own risk . The Low C# can be adjusted down by just packing up the slide on its rod lifter arm enough !
