the pads for the plateau keys are most unusual . they measure 2 mm thick. i have not seen any one selling pads this thin at music medic or ferries. mabey only by special order?

Just use cork pads as you can make them any thickness you want and they'll last loads longer than crappy skin pads.

Valentino pads are available that are close to 2mm (.080 inches).

Some more photos.

I altered the length and shape of the LH thumbplate linkage in order to gain far more venting of the thumbplate pad for a better quality F# as they used the standard linkage piece used for ring key models. Also ditched the knock pins securing the main action clutches in favour of pinning screws.

I wonder if its possible, alternatively, to lightly spring a plateau LH thumb for better venting, would this perhaps be too much hassle/feel too heavy?

Chris - what do you use to cut the cork into differing diameter circles?

A couple of years back I repadded my Noblet plateau with Valentino pads. No problems, venting and tuning are good.

The cork pads are already bought precut to any diameter you want (in 0.5mm increments). I got them from Pisoni but you can get cork pads from any decent supplier. Any that are a bit tight can always be sanded down to the required diameter, or if the pad cup side walls are thick enough, the inside edges of them can be ground out for the pads to fit.

Malerne stencilled them as they did with their other clarinets and oboes under loads of different names. My sax teacher had one (and an Italian one with pearl inlaid fingerplates) although I can't remember what it was stencilled - maybe Selmer Sterling. The only other one I know of was stencilled Buisson.

The LH thumbplate is already sprung lightly (they have to be sprung) and the springing won't have any effect on the leverage or the venting. Only the leverages are wrong as the linkage is too long as it's the same piece used on a regular ring key clarinet where the length of the thumb ring linkage is of no real consequence and is usually made as long as it is for minimum travel which is no good for a fingerplate where venting is important. Shortening the linkage piece gives the thumbplate more travel in relation to the open G vent. I also sunk the thumb tube slightly deeper into the body to gain even more venting.
