Where were the serial numbers entered on early Penzel clarinets?
I am looking at a Penzel clarinet with no serial number visible to the seller. There are three bands on the upper joint and one band on the lower joint.
The clarinet has a wrap-around register key and rollers on Eb/Bb and F/C.
Is it possible that it didn't have a serial number or that the serial number is concealed by the bands?

It's highly likely it doesn't have a serial number. I have a G.L. Penzel NY with no number and a wrap octave key, and have seen others. Not to worry though - it won't help you date it anyway! ;-) I'm not sure there's an "official" Penzel or Penzel Mueller list.
