I've been greatly disappointed by Bob Bernardo's recent refacing work. He missed the requested specs by over 15% (fifteen percent!). He simply does not understand that he should follow customer's request, instead of shaping the mouthpiece as he personally feels is good for him, but not necessarily for the customer. Compared to other refacers, his fee is rather cheap, but so is his expertise & performance. I'd strongly recommend against using his services.

One thing to consider when having someone do repair work, refacing or other services is to choose someone who has the same general preference for what you are looking for. There are many different preferences or tastes out there and many beliefs. Some of the factors might be close vs open tip opening, various facing lengths, asymmetrical vs even facing, concave vs flat table, wide rails vs thin and more. I have known makers that have very different beliefs and tastes than I have who I would not consider using because we are in very different camps.
Some blanks are better suited to certain facings as well. I know that Walter Grabner talked on his site of playability vs hitting the numbers. There may be reasons why Bob chose the dimensions he put on there.
How does the mouthpiece play? I would reach out to Bob and get his thoughts. Perhaps he can do some additional work to get closer to your desired feel.

I'm sorry you didn't like my work. You wanted a tenor sax facing. I asked you to send it back today and I would make a tenor sax facing. You refuse. I only charged you $45 which included shipping, 2 day air, for $15, my profit was $30.
NO ONE plays on a tenor sax tip opening of 1.4. Vandoren and all of the other mouthpiece companies have a max tip opening of 1.25.
I know you are an MD, stay with being a doctor, because you surely are a horrible musician. Buy a tenor sax. You surely can'y play the clarinet.
Grow up! I bet when patients complain you don't give them a refund, or who died under your care.
There is no refacer in the world who wants to change a mouthpiece into a tenor saxophone tip opening.
JERK! I can't believe you posted this.
GROW UP idiot. You will get your $45 back, sometime next year. Minus my shipping costs of $15.
Wow you are NUTS! As a doctor, take a chill pill. You need help.

The mpc plays crappy, simply because his majesty BB "felt" that my spec was "for tenor sax", and then he "felt" entitled to change it on his own (majesty's), and without consulting me, to whatever lousy spec he "felt" would suit him, but not myself. He de facto ruined the $130 piece, pocketed his fee and run away.

1.40mm was the requested spec, which BB disregarded, and his own posts are res ipsa loquitur. Sapienti sat.

IMHO, the community should be informed what to expect from distinct refacers.

The following emails from BB are testimony to his bait & switch business tactics:
"I have a few new mouthpieces similar to the adjusted Selmer’s, but a bit better sound wise and the easiness to project. I can send 5 or so for you to test. However you might like what I do to the Selmer. My cost for a mouthpiece is $150. A very good price for a Kaspar molded mouthpiece. Yes I have the Kaspar molds from the 1960’s, the Ann Arbor and the Cicero. I also have 2 molds made by me, Two Chedeville mouthpiece molds. I have Iggy Gennusa’s old Ched. I was a student of his for 7 years. I made 2 molds. They are within 0.05” accuracy. Plus all of my mouthpieces are hand faced for each player. This is why I like to send several mouthpieces to test. I often like to have my clients send their horns. I setup the mouthpieces to the horn. Then I check for sound, projection, fix dead notes on the horn, adjust bores if needed, and perhaps add my own custom barrels if needed. I was also a student of Hans Moennig! I didn’t want to go into great details and confuse you. But you seen [sic] very intelligent. We can keep to a simple approach and start with the Selmer then go from there!"
"Thank you for the pic of the Evolution! It looks pretty decent, I see a few marks of it that aren’t normal. Maybe an adjustment is needed. Can you ship this? The look of the mouthpiece generally looks pretty decent. I do know that the tables are not flat based on what other refacers have told me."

I have been working with bob's mouthpiece for 3 years and have always been good friends with him.
I sent him my 3 mouthpieces a while ago and they met exactly all my requirements.
I always enjoyed working with him and I played with him for 6 hours yesterday.
At least for me there's never been anything wrong with working with bob.

I have had similarly good experiences working with Bob.

I think you've more than informed the community of your opinion of Bob's work.
Perhaps next time you'll tell us about a refacer whose work you like.
I'm closing this thread to head off any more unnecessary vitriol.
