Baldeyrou and Chabod in a concert featuring period instrument clarinets and modern clarinets in works by Haydn, Mendelsohn, and Mantovani. Especially enjoyable performance of "Bug" by Baldeyrou (evocative of computer glitches, not insects).

Amazing playing, especially in Bugs. His playing always seems completely effortless to me. In his videos he seems to expend more effort doing the humour than he does playing.
I think he’s still on a B40 (Profile 88?) in this, as on his ‘Carmen’ CD. Any ideas?

How many different fingering systems were represented? I loved the rubber bands on the first set of instruments.

Thank you seabreeze ! I love Nicolas' playing and the sound of the period instruments is just charming. Also so nice to learn of modern composers works for the clarinet.

JTJC: My eyes might be deceiving me but I think I make out the diamond logo of the BD4 Vandoren mouthpiece. He said somewhere that he plays mostly BD4 now. BD4 is more vibrant and articulates faster and lighter than BD5 or B40. He's definitely playing a Vandoren mouthpiece with a Vandoren Optimum ligature and a Buffet Legende clarinet.

Michel Portal and Paul Meyer also recorded the Haydn duets, but this version on period instruments is far more interesting. What are these clarinets copies of?

Those old instruments (whether originals or copies) sound great, so colorful and full-bodied. And he gets them to play in tune!
