I acquired an Evette 443XX PR made in Germany. Does anyone know the material it is made of? How to clean? The whole thing smells like an Attic, case, etc.. However, I love it. I have learned how to take a clarinet apart, etc. Would love any details you may have on this instrument. Thanks bunches. P.S. It came with these small clamps that look like they attach to the instrument...not sure what those are...two of them. Thanks.

Evette clarinets were made in either plastic (ABS resin) or wood (grenadilla) - if it's shiny, then it's plastic. If it looks dull, then it's wood.
If it's plastic, then remove all the keys and screws (and needle springs if you can) and wash it in a bowl of warm soapy water, using a cut down paintbrush to get into the crevices and cotton buds/Q-tips to clean out the toneholes. Don't submerge it for too long if you want to preserve the tenon corks. Dry it well using paper towel on a stick to dry the bore and also dry the surface. Add a tiny drop of key oil where the springs emerge from the pillars to ensure they won't rust.
If it has three clamps, then ignore them as you should never clamp down anything on woodwinds as that will damage the pads or bend the keys.
More recently (since the late '90s) Buffet have been supplying a spring loaded black plastic top hat that fits into the lower joint socket and the arm holds the LH E/B lever down - this is bad news as it will impart stress on the nylon pin and they break without any warning. Before then, they used to put a rubber band around the RH E/B pad cup to hold the keys closed during transport.
