I wanted a Ridenour or Kessler low C to jam on in my studio but couldn't come up with the $2k+ or qualify for financing, so I stumbled upon IQ Instrument Rentals in Philly. A doc named Terry runs the company that offers rentals of a variety of instruments. I got a low Eb no-name Chinese bass for $65/month rent to own (40 months) cancel anytime with a $100 refundable deposit. It's a two piece body that's kind of weird to put together and is easy to play. I put a vintage Selmer "A" refaced mouthpiece with a 2 1/2 reed and it's OK...I played a Selmer 33 in Rome 15 years ago and my orchestra days are behind me (corona put the screws to all of that here in the USA)...so it's me in the studio now with all my toys, including my long-lost bass clarinet.
Anyone ever heard of this company or played this horn? Thanks. The service is very good.

That sound's like a terrible deal to be honest. Even if it's as good as a Ridenour, you're eventually paying $2600 for a low Eb bass clarinet. It may seem like a good idea to rent to own because it's cheaper up front, but regardless of whether you pay now or later you're still going to be out $2000+. Unfortunately many music stores do this to prey on lower income students who can't afford to buy.
I would return the bass, find a nice cheap refurbished Bundy or Yamaha and start a savings account for the bass you really want. When you're ready to buy a new bass you can sell your old bass for a good portion of what you paid for it. No sense in overpaying by over a thousand dollars for a Chinese instrument. Check eBay and Reverb regularly for refurbished basses. If you're patient you can even find instruments for under $500.
