Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right place to post my question but here it is:
Does anyone know a good and honest violin repair tech (should I say "luthier"?) in New York/New Jersey area?
We need to restore a viola from 1930ies. The instrument is not a high level so going to one of the famous violin makers in NYC may be too expensive.

Where in New Jersey are you looking for someone? Is Philadelphia too far? My wife is a violist and I could email you several names and contact info in the southern NJ/Philadelphia area.

Hi Karl,
Philadelphia is a little too far (2.5 hrs one-way), I was thinking of something closer to NYC.
My wife probably would not travel that far. I just got out of the hospital after prolonged time in bed so I am not in shape to drive much either.
However, who would you recommend?
I'd check how much time it takes to get there.

Call the NJ symphony and ask them for a referral to answer your question from a pro violin or viola player in he orchestra.
