It‘d seem that building a new facility in Markneukirchen yielded quite a number of new instruments. Of course, the Zenit was to be expected, but there‘s a new Full Oehler in A/B, which apparently upon request is available in a Mopani/Gold keys configuration. Neat! I hope it’s a somewhat more affordable alternative to other professional German horns.
Besides that, I‘m having difficulties finding the relevant differences between their top Boehm models - apart from the wood, bells and barrels used. What is that Excellence bore anyways, if it’s not a Superior? Based on the „more french“ Advantage?
At any rate, I shall pay them a visit after my exams this summer! What are your thoughts?

Uebel has always been more oriented to how much effort is applied to the bore as well as differences to the bore from one model to the other more than anything else. The Advantage (if you've never played one) always had a big, more immediate sound than the Superior which was always marketed as having a darker, more "German sound." The Preference originally filled that niche but was not intended to be as "high end" as the Superior. That's where the Excellence came in........prior to the Zenith.

Well I actually did get to try the Advantage, which is an excellent Instrument. For some reason, only meant for export....
Sorry, I was refering to the Preference actually, so the Excellence would be the upgrade to that. Makes sense.
It certainly is a legitimate approach to not use too many different bore concepts. Uebel is very evasive about actual bore specs, but I suppose if the Superior competes with the CSG III, the other bore concept aims at the R13 type bores.
Just a little confusing that the Romanza has no intonation vent in the bell, but is described as having the Superior bore.

Yesterday I heard Morals play the Weber Concerto in Philly with his Uebel Zenit model that's he's working on with the company. Of course he sounds great on anything but after the concert I played his instrument and I was extremely impressed with the eveness of the tone quality and intonation as well as the mechanics. It felt fantastic. Just simply a beautiful instument. I don't know what changes they've already made for him but he has been working with them. He travels there a few times a year and spends time at their establishment. I met the manager after the concert too, she was there to hear him play and speak together this weekend. One of the things she and he told me was that they are not interested in selling quantity but quality. He told me they have a stock of aged wood they use and continue to age their wood for future use. If I wasn't retired I'd purchase a set as soon as Morales told me it's as good as it can get but the one he's now playing is one beautiful instruments already. As good or better than anything I've ever tried. He also said their bass clarinet is fantastic, I believe it.

He's right. I have a Uebel Emperior and it IS fantastic. Another thing about Uebel is their warranty. Most companies, from what I've read, warrant against cracks for 1 to 2 years. The Uebel warranty is for 5 years. When I was in the market for a new bass, it was Josh Johnson who urged me to try the Uebel. Haven't regretted it one bit.
