The teacher I have at school I got with because I chose to go to college there-the teacher that I study with during the summer I got with because she taught at the local college and is very good and I enjoy her teaching style as well as my teacher at school. I click well with both of these teachers-a little better with the one at school, but that's why I have stayed with them-I understand what they are trying to convey to me, they are wonderful musicians themselves, we have a lot of fun at lessons-BUT get much accomplished, and I honor and admire them as people and also as friends.

My husband was taking saxophone lessons at a local music store. The teacher also plays clarinet, so when I expressed interest, I started with the same teacher. Unfortunately, he's left for health reasons, so I have a new teacher now. But I like the new one too. Right now we're going over more theory than clarinet, but I need that too.

My first teacher taught my mother and uncle so I tried him out and stayed for a while. He recently recommended a former student of his, so now I take from him.

How did I meet my teacher? Well, I had originally asked another teacher who lives in Toronto (who also happens to have a listing on sneezy, which is how I contacted him), but since he had a heavy teaching and performing year and wanted to take a break from music, he recommended me to my current teacher.

I started out with him being the guy who helps with our marching band but then the school offered lessons through the school and I signed up for it and then after that first semester I took the summer off. Then at the beginning of the school year for tenth grade, I tried this new woman that everyone took from and she and I so did not click at all. I then started taking lessons full time, year round with the exception of a couplewith my first guy. My teacher's pretty cool, now he's a first year master student and I really respect him for his ability and for his teaching, plus hes a really great guy with only two other students besides myself, and we're all basically on the same abilitylevel. I've gotten really far as far as what I can do now as to where I was when I began. I'd like to stick with him for as ong as possible, and if I go to a different college, I'll probably still keep in touch, hes a great guy to work with!

As a teacher I have been sought out by reputation as a player, both in person and through others, by my position in a particular institution/school and through conducting. I like to think myself professional and qualified which I am in both regards having turned out students who have gone on with it.

I do however have many failures who may be studens who have no interest or talent o rwith who I do not click. The mainthing for an adult student is to know what you are seeking, whether the teacher is likely to be able to help and be realistic with you ambitions.
