I've seen those old Bonade mouthpieces with lines dug out of the table but this was is news to me with an area dug out of the table. I guess it gives a more spring board type of effect. I bought Bay mouthpieces in the 80s and this looks similar to what I have (without the bevel). Anyone try one or remember what it's supposed to do?

This is the first of these that I have see. If I had to guess, I would think perhaps it was meant to compensate for reeds which swell and warp and develop a little bit of a belly on the table side.
