 Altissimo notes on Bass Clarinet

They're quite easy and always wholesome sounding, aren't they? I think I'm starting to understand why Harry Spaarnay enjoyed this instrument so much now. In other words, I figured out how to get a top F. Also, if you finger a Low Eb and apply pressure with the jaw like you would for altissmo notes, then you'll hit a top F# too.

I do apologize for the "Woe is me" thread. In hindsight, that was worser than when "Friday" was a hit song. Good day to you all. Thanks for reeding (reed pun).

It's great that you're getting to the upper register of the instrument but try not not adjust your jaw at all. The only thing that should change in your embouchure should be your air, tongue position, and throat as well. However, for now, I guess getting used to the note wouldn't hurt.

How do you feel it? Do you close your glottis to give more air pressure or speed?

I'm not terribly certain, but I know I apply some pressure with my jaw and I lift my tongue higher to do it. That being said the top F# is my new "Personal best highest note". High C is a joke, I just blow harder. In fancy terms, I apply lesser pressure with the jaw and well... blow faster? Like, if I blew into the instrument and removed the it quickly the noise I'd hear would be a "fffffffftt" and not a "hufffffff" like I would for lower notes.

If you could recall that film "The Master Speaks" when Joe Allard talked about the "X" sound when exhaling as opposed to the "tuh" or "Tu/Too" sound. I'm not skilled enough to really musically apply those top notes, but I suppose becoming familiar with the feeling of playing those notes will make it easier to control my registers changes and prevent unwanted squeaks in normal playing.

Check out my website and look at my fingering chart for the high register and hints on playing bass clarinet. You might find something helpful.
