What's the vandoren reed resurfacer? is it like sand paper?
is it like reed rush?
what do you think of the vandoren thing?

It is basically 2 different grades of sandpaper glued to a plate of glass from what i've seen. I find that a file flattens and polishes the back of the reed better than any sandpaper i've used(use the grade of Mill-Bastard file available from any hardware store). Reed rush is used to take wood off the top of the reed(vamp) not the underside(or table).

It is overpriced sandpaper on a glass. Buy your own and any flat surface will do. Try waterproof # 400 first, then switch to #600 to finish. As for the top of the reed, I prefer my knife to sandpaper of rush--easier to see how much wood you are removing. Good clarineting!!

i bought one because i was curious - i don't necessarily feel like it's an integral part of my clarinet life now, but it has lent some convenience to the whole messing-with-reeds process - this thing also purportedly has the advantage of being made out of material that the grit won't wear off of - at least, that's what i heard anyway, and so far it seems to be true - it's not that painful of an investment if you're curious! best wishes
