 Bass Clarinet Neck Strap Hook
Author: TrenchFloat

The only hook for a neck strap on my bass clarinet (Buffet Prestige) is currently 3 inches below the throat F key on the top joint, which makes for awkward weight distribution when I play standing up. I have tried a few different neck straps & harness with the same awkwardness. I have seen hooks placed just above the thumb rest (on the bottom joint) on bass cl players who perform standing. Is it possible to move or add a neck strap hook to a new spot? Is this something a skilled tech would be able to do?

Yes, it's easy, and even the least competent tech can do it. You can do it yourself if you know how to carefully center-punch and drill holes in wood. Various styles of hooks can be purchased from Ferree's Tools, Votaw and other suppliers.
