I know some of you here are private teachers. This is for those with really young students in their first year or two. My 10-year-old-son is in his first year of playing clarinet and doing quite well. I wouldn't say I am giving him "lessons" because it is very sporadic and only when he is interested at this point, but I have made sure he is playing with the correct embouchure, decent reeds and we are working on breath support. Today I had the idea to print out an easy sample of the Emperor's March from Star Wars, which he loves, and he did very well learning the beginning first few measures, including some new accidentals and two notes above the break (D and Eb) that he has never done before.
I want to work with him more over the summer to keep up his skill and to give him a leg up on next year (and try to teach him more technique, going over the break consistently, probably up to G). Does anyone know of any good but fun method books? Maybe ones with more current music, or more movie themes like Star Wars or Pirates of the Caribbean that would be appropriate for his level and age? Many of the ones I have found online are older and have songs that he wouldn't recognize or care about.

I have three Hal-Leonard publications that he'd probably like. These are Disney Movie Hits/ Essential Rock / My Heart Will Go On. And there could very well be more by Hal-Leonard publications. The ones above include a number of songs from Beauty and The Beast. The Lion King. Monsters Inc / Aladdin and Toy Story 2. and lots more. These all come with a CD of backing tracks so they are actually 'Minus One' books
