So, my student just scored a 98/100 (2 points off for sight reading ) at an All County Audition. She performed the Movement 1 from Koller Concerto in F.
She owns a yamaha advantage Bb Clarinet, and I have her on B45 mouthpiece. Vandoren V12 #3 reeds.
She is an 8th grader and will be moving to level 6 nyssma repitoire, (All State level repitoire.) She sounds exponentially better on my Vintage Buffet R-11. Would it be everyone's general consensus it's time for her to move up to a higher level model instrument.? She is not going into music but might continue to play in college.

Budget? Bang for buck, Ridenour! Horn is tough as nails (for outside playing) and has beautiful intonation and quality of sound throughout all registers.

Haven't talked to parents yet but I plan I buying the YA for what they $spent to help them out, I'll give her a plastic clarinet to borrow for marching band.
I'll check out the Ridenour. I've heard good things abut Yamaha 450

I think you've answered your own question. When an upgrade makes a meaningful difference in the result, it's time. It sounds from your post as though you've already covered that (she sounds "exponentially better" on your clarinet).
