I just bought a plastic Yamaha as a backup clarinet and it came with a red swirled Vandoren B45 Lyre. I was just wondering if anyone had any information about these mouthpieces and whether it would have any advantages over a normal black ebonite mouthpiece.
Ill add some pictures soon.
Thanks

I think they're made out of "cumberland", a colored variant of black ebonite. Apart from the color, I don't know what the difference is. It comes in different colors and patterns.
You can buy the rod stock here:

Like racing stripes on a car.
The swirls help you tongue faster and "spin" the air. :-)

I did have a clarinet in for servicing some years back which was fitted with the "swirled red" B45 Mouthpiece.
This mouthpiece did play very well, but that could just have been good customer selection or the luck of the draw.
