I found several listings for a Yamaha "Y-12" clarinet. They obviously have the mouthpiece model mixed up with the clarinet model. All the clarinet models listed on the Yamaha site begin with "YCL". The earliest is "YCL-22".
In the images above you can see the mouthpiece is clearly a Y-12. The horn is a Yamaha by the bell (you can see it in another picture), but there is no marking on the top joint.
Anyone know when Yamahas were produced without a stamp on the top joint? Are the early ones any good? This is to fix up and sell.

I've come across several of these on old Yamahas. I've never bothered to measure them and don't have any right now, but my experience is that they were fairly open and played much like the 4C.

They were stamped but very lightly, so the stamp wore out very easily. You should be able to make out the feint logo and model number on both the top joint and bell.
Very well made clarinets and they put a lot of new ones and also pro models to shame where the overall build quality is concerned. The keywork is incredible on these and they're just an entry level model clarinet. They seem to be largely based on a Selmer Series 9 or 9*.
