I only have a short barrel for my S1 Buffet Bb clarinet. I am finding it extremely difficult to maintain consistent intonation and end up with having to pull out massively, even when cold. Any suggestions for a suitably compatible longer barrel? What should I consider when looking for different barrels? I don't live anywhere near to go to try out a few, so am relying on research... Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks

Hi,
How long barrel do you need? I have an original Buffet S1 barrel 65mm long, but I use Scott barrels, so that one just sits in my case. Contact me is you are interested.

I would try a reverse conical barrel such as the Moennig or the Chadash. These improve any clarinet based on the R13 bore, which I think the S1 is.

Or (since he is too humble to say it) contact a custom barrel maker like Allan. He makes great barrels and really knows his stuff.

@sonicbang Thank you for the offer - I will give a Moennig a go, but will keep your e-mail in mind in case that one doesn't do the trick.

We have to be careful here. The S1 has a different type of tapered bore, unlike the R13. So with a Moennig barrel which is tapered, will it work? I'm not sure. You will be getting 2 reverse tapered bores together.
See if you can return anything you buy. The S1 is a great horn, but kind of a different animal.
Guy is a good man. Maybe he has some experience with the S1 horns. It's surely worth a phone call.
