So I'm getting just a little fed up with the consistency on Vandoren reeds. Gonzlalez reeds have been mentioned on these forums on a few times. I hear that they are more consistent then Vandorens, is that true? It might be good for my sound if I go for a warmer tone, will they do that? I'm also wondering if they will work well with the BD5 mouthpiece. And how do the strengths compare to Vandoren reeds? Sorry for all the questions, I just know very little about these reeds. I want to know if they will be a viable option for me.

I liked Gonzalez FOF better than V12 for consistency. I used the same strength. Since then, I have switched to Canyes Xilema (.5 higher number), then to Legere Signature (.25 higher than FOF).
I use an M30 mouthpiece, but that's probably not a factor here.

I've been buying Gonzales FOF reeds for a couple of years now. Out of a box of 10, 8 will play really well and 2 will need a bit of work. I've never had to throw one away as being "hopeless." I highly recommend them. Another thing I really like about them is that they come in 1/4 strength steps. I use a 2 3/4. I've also used the Gonzales GD reeds but found them to take more work to play than I could muster. Because Mr. Gonzales sent me a bunch of free ones, I gave a bunch of them away and asked people to let me know if they liked them. About half really liked them and half didn't like them at all. I'd start with the FOF's.

Another vote for Canyes Xilema and Gonzalez GD, and for backup when my regulars don't play, I have a couple rare (old) VD White Master and 56, and a Rico reserve. It has served me well to have some diversity just in case.

As long as the name has been dropped twice, it should be noted that Canyes Xilema reeds are no longer made.
Ben Redwine (US importer) made the announcement many months ago, and his inventory did not look large (although he may have some still).
