 Buffet B18?
Author: kettledrum

I'm looking to buy a clarinet for my daughter and I've been eyeing the Buffet B12.

I've seen a seller with a B18 which purports to be the European model of the B12. However, the internet doesn't seem to have any information at all on the B18. Is this a legit model?

As an aside is Buffet pronounced like the all you can eat meal, or is it pronounced like Jimmy Buffet?

That was my educated guess, but I wanted to be 100% sure! Thanks!

But more importantly, does anyone know anything about this B18 model?

For the love of all that is holy DO NOT buy a Buffet B12.

Worst clarinet on the market.

Find a used Vito or Bundy clarinet (used is the key, I hear the newer ones are no longer made well) for around $400. That is your starting point to find a usable clarinet. Yes you can find cheaper, but your daughter will fight an uphill battle using an "instrument" that could never play in tune nor last any reasonable amount of time being used.

The B12 has always been called the B12 in Europe since it was rebranded as that back in the mid '80s - it was the B&H Regent II before that and the Evette even earlier still, but still the same instrument made by Schreiber in Germany.

I think the B18 may be the Australian version of the B12 as I've seen them listed on eBay's Australian site.
