Hey all,
I'm sure that this has been addressed before but new products are out there! Any recommendations for elastic clarinet neck straps? I've been experimenting with the BG static strap and the elastic strap and the elastic feels much more stable to me. Has anyone used that strap before? Do you think that others offer more perks?
Thanks!

I love the BG strap. Added bonus -- it's durable. I use it every time I play, they last a long time.

The ocgenie has a very novel approach with constantly self adjusting functionality. I purchased one recently and it works very well. You'll find it at ocgenie.com

I also recommend the BG elastic one. The Neotech is sweatier in use and it stains white skirt collars black :-)

One of the sax players I play with started using a strange looking "neck strap" a few months ago. My curiosity was piqued and I talked with her about it. I have considerable arthritis in my neck and using a neck strap for any length of time creates pain. The device she was using can be found a jazzlab.com. It takes the weight-bearing off of your neck and puts it on your shoulder blades. I immediately purchased one. Voila! No more neck pain and discomfort. I did have to put a small zip lock tie on it to hold the strap closer to the device so it wouldn't get in the way of my playing. That was the only adaptation I had to make to use it with my clarinet. I absolutely love it.

Roxann,
That harness looks great! It might just be a little bit big. I don't have any issues with arthritis or neck pain or anything. I'm just looking for something that makes standing and playing double-lip more stable. The elastic BG that I tried help tremendously but the static one didn't. Is the part of the saxholder that attaches to the instrument elastic? Do you think it even matters?

Presto (Jim) -
That OC Genie looks really neat! How does the strap feel against your neck? It doesn't seem to have a padding.

Jason,
Re the ocgenie: The strap is fine. I haven't had any problem. The device takes up enough weight to eliminate strain but some of the weight of the clarinet is still there providing feel..there is plenty of adjustment on the strap and it doesn't jam the mouthpiece into your face like some elasticated straps I've tried. I'm surprised it's not more widely known.
