I have a clarinet which plays slightly flat with the barrel that came with it. I've tried different mouthpieces without much improving things, and I've tried to find a shorter barrel, so far with no success. I'm considering shortening the barrel slightly to try and improve the situation, but I'm reluctant to alter the barrel if I can avoid it. As the pitch depends to some extent on the overall volume of the barrel, would reducing the bore slightly have the same result?

Put some tape inside your barrel and try!
The high clarion register will probably be flatter with smaller bore barrel.

What brand of horns and the mouthpiece, barrel size, are you using. I may have some suggestions. You can email me at savagesax@aol.com for a personal response.
